Activision and Bungie have hit the jackpot. Shortly after informing us that Destiny had shipped $500 million worth of product to retailers, Activision has confirmed that in five short days on the market, the online-centric first person shooter has grossed over $325 million in sales, making it the best-selling new IP of all time (sorry Watch Dogs).
By the end of the first week, players have spent over 100 million hours playing online, with 137 million activities taking place.
“Millions of gamers are having a great time playing Destiny and can’t put down their controllers,” said Activision’s Eric Hirshberg in a statement. “And this is just the beginning. Destiny is a platform that will grow and evolve and we will continue to work closely with our partners at Bungie to bring a long line of new experiences and content to life in the game.”
What remains a mystery is how many units Destiny sold, and how that was split between PS4, Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360. However, no one can deny that Destiny is on fire right now.
