Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare To Feature Cross-Buy, Free Next-Gen Upgrade

Following a similar program with Call of Duty Ghosts, Activision announced today that those who purchased Call of Duty Warfare on either Xbox 360 or PS3 will be eligible to download the Xbox One or PS4 version of the game for free. The offer is only available to those who purchase the game digitally.

The free PS4 and Xbox One version can be secured by logging onto a console with the same PSN ID/Microsoft the game was purchased on a PS3/360 with and finding the game and its applicable content in the PlayStation Store/Xbox Live Marketplace.

Impressively enough, the last-gen versions of the game will still be available to play once the next-gen versions are downloaded. Progress, stats, and gear will also carry over when the next-gen version is downloaded and played.

The program will run until for the game itself until March 31st, 2015; all DLC purchased for in-game use, including Season Pass, upgrades for free, however with no deadline.

The move likely stems from the fact that the game will be released over a month before the holiday season and Activision doesn’t want to discourage launch day sales for those waiting to adopt next-gen consoles.
