David Letterman tends to draw some of the most unique musical performances, whether it’s The Vines self-imploding on stage or Future Islands showing the best dance moves in the business. Perhaps no “artist” they’ve featured has ever been as bold as Hatsune Miku. That’s right, the computer generated pop star showed up on Letterman as a hologram tonight to belt out one of her biggest hits. While this sort of thing has become the norm in Asia, it’s still quite shocking in North America as evidenced by the utter shock of the crowd, who was sitting completely still in the one shot of them shown.
Even Letterman seemed to have no idea how to take the performance, which is a tie-in to the Hatsune Miku Art Exhibition sponsored by Square Enix going on in New York this weekend.
