Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC is one of the most promising JRPGs on the horizon, but it’s been there for a while, and whenever someone asks XSEED or Carpe Fulgur about it the response is either “it’ll be done when it’s done” or, more commonly silence. Today Andrew Dice, Carpe Fulgur’s lead editor, broke that silence with this enigmatic tweet:
So. It is now past time I made this post. http://t.co/yzm1oHwjjB

At the top of that blog is a long and emotionally exhausting post about Andrew’s ongoing battle with depression and the ways that it’s affected Carpe Fulgur’s translation efforts. It’s a hard read – perhaps too hard for some, since Andrew isn’t shy about opening a window into his darkest suicidal thoughts – but I think it’s important as well. Depression is a crippling and difficult to comprehend illness that can devastate people’s lives, and Andrew’s post offers a rare chance to understand how it affects its victims. There’s also a lot of interesting information about the translation and publishing process there – in fact the whole blog is filled with fascinating insights into how games are made. It’s well worth reading.
