It seems like a new NISA dungeon-crawler releases roughly every four days. Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy is the studio’s forthcoming RPG that fancies itself as a dungeon-delving roleplaying game in a unique sci-fi setting. While most Etrian Odyssey-like titles are set against some kind of fantasy background, few take the science fiction route. In fact, JRPGs at large seemingly steer clear of sci-fi — or at least hard sci-fi — altogether, with only a handful of series ever venturing ‘off-planet.’
But still, New Tokyo Legacy looks to buck tradition and map the stars with its release. Up until recently, though, we haven’t actually seen a whole lot of the game itself. Thankfully that has changed thanks to a fresh batch of English screenshots revealed just today. Take a gander below and let us know what you think. We’re particularly optimistic about this one simply because, while its gameplay trappings look fairly conventional, the aesthetic is slick and polished, all the way down to the super clean interface.
We’ll find out where things stand definitively when the game launches on the PS Vita April 14.
