Sumo Digital Releases Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Concept Art

Little Big Planet 3 developer Sumo Digital has released a few concept art samples from Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, the 2011 multiplatform kart racer. One highlights the team’s early decision to allow Sonic to race without a car, an idea eventually scrapped for the sake of logic and fairness (Sonic is much, much faster than any car). Golden Axe’s Gilius Thunderhead is also shown riding the dinosaur-like Chicken Leg, a pairing that didn’t make it into the final game.

There’s also a load of character models and stage designs, and it’s fantastic to see a developer taking the time to give fans a peek behind the curtain, albeit nearly four years after release. Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and its sequel were both well-received by consumers and critics alike, so it wouldn’t be too strange to see the Blue Blur get behind the wheel again soon.
