Xenoblade Chronicles 3D Download Demands Some Massive Space

If you’ve been looking forward to playing Xenoblade Chronicles on the go (and let’s be honest, you totally have been), there’s a chance you’ll be taking the retail route. Nintendo recently announced that the 3DS’ first exclusive title will require an 8GB or larger microSD card, which for those of you keeping count is double the storage space included with the new 3DS and 3DS XL units.

According to Hiro Yamada, the game’s general coordinator, it wasn’t possible to reduce the size any further as the game is simply too big. Yamada also stated that coupled with the 3D effect, it was tough to match the Wii’s visuals, but the team managed by utilizing various tricks. “Simply porting the game itself was difficult. In porting the game we had to use a lot of technical tricks to get the immense landscapes to show both seamlessly and without performance drops. Dealing with the 3D effect was an incredibly difficult challenge, but something we deemed necessary to provide players with a sense of immersion in these huge landscapes.”

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D launches in North America on April 10, and on April 2 in Eurpe. The game requires a new 3DS or 3DS XL to play.
