Zelda Wii U Delayed to At Least 2016, Will Not be at E3

The Legend of Zelda for Wii U is undeniably one of the most anticipated games of 2015 and far and away the biggest release for Wii U. Big enough, even, that diehard fans of the series have already purchased Wii Us in anticipation for Zelda alone. It’s been no secret how big the release is and with a lack of content shown off so far, many have been asking whether or not the game would indeed be ready for 2015.

We have some bad news to report today as Zelda has been pushed from 2015.

Nintendo announced the news in a development update, where Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma stating “we are no longer making a 2015 release our number one priority.” This means Zelda Wii U won’t show up until at least 2016, with the possibility of being pushed even further.

The delay is said to stem from constantly discovering new possibilities for the game that they want to turn into a reality, wanting time to make Zelda “the best game it can possibly be.”

If there’s any silver lining, it’s that Aonuma stated that their priority is for The Legend of Zelda to be “the ultimate and most complete Zelda game.”

More still, Nintendo of America confirmed that the game will not shown at E3:

It’s also been questioned whether or not this delay could mean a release for Nintendo’s upcoming “NX” console.
