Many Mortal Kombat fans might have been confused when NetherRealm Studios revealed the two “klassic” characters included in the Mortal Kombat X Kombat Pack. Tanya is at least recognizable having been in three games (Mortal Kombats 4, Deception, and Armageddon), but where’d the brown ninja come from? Well, that brown ninja is Tremor who made his first and only appearance in a spin-off game. He’s making his first, true Mortal Kombat debut in X all thanks to his many fans.
Ed Boon has revealed that while fans have demanded many different characters, nearly all were unified over Tremor. This unification of fans is what ultimately convinced Boon to add him to Mortal Kombat X.
“Character roster stuff has been a big one,” Ed Boon told GameSpot. “There’s a really big push for the obscure character we have, Tremor, which I got so many tweets from players wanting that character. It actually stood out to me as odd, but there was this swell of people pushing for it with petitions online and all of this crazy stuff, so we included him, and a big reason was because of fans yelling loud enough.”
Tremor made his first appearance in Mortal Kombat: Special Forces, a spin-off action game panned by critics. Tremor is the brown ninja to Scorpion’s yellow, Reptile’s green, Sub-Zero’s blue, and Rain’s purple. While Sub-Zero controls ice and Scorpion controls fire, Tremor has mastery over rock. Despite not appearing as a playable character, Tremor has been inserted in multiple Mortal Kombat games throughout the years as an Easter Egg. His most recent; being playable in Mortal Kombat 2011s Challenge Tower on PS Vita.
Mortal Kombat X is out April 14 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will launch later this summer. Tremor will be part of the The Klassic Pack #2, which is the final DLC drop for Mortal Kombat X.
