At its Vision event earlier today, Japanese developer Level-5 revealed that its smash-hit cross-media franchise Yo-Kai Watch will be localized and published in western markets by Nintendo. The Yo-Kai Watch franchise has quickly become a cultural phenomenon in Japan, its 3DS games selling millions of copies alongside an incredibly popular anime series and toy line. Nintendo and Level-5 are aiming for a 2016 release for the game in North America and Europe, while Hasbro will launch a toy line around the same time.
Level-5 also announced the first details on Yo-Kai Watch 3, which is currently in development for 3DS. The game will take place in the USA and feature a brand new character, Inaho Misora, who also travels with her own yo-kai named USApyon. No plans were announced to bring the game westward, but with the first game in the series already being localized despite its distinctly Japanese setting bringing the new North American adventure over seems like a no-brainer.
