Warner Brothers has revealed that LEGO Dimensions, a toys-to-life series that allows players to transfer figures and creations into in-game worlds, will hit store shelves on September 29.
The LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack contains a LEGO Toy Pad (the actual device used to read NFC chips) and bricks that will be used to build a portal into the game world. In addition, Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle figurines will also be included, potentially proving that Dimensions will span across a number of entertainment properties in the future.
Niels Jørgensen, Vice President, Digital Games for the LEGO Group, offered his thoughts on the landmark announcement:
LEGO Dimensions is unlike anything that we have ever done. It further extends the LEGO play experience into the digital world with all of the characters, humour and action of LEGO videogames now combined with the fun of LEGO minifigure and model building. We are thrilled to expand our partnership with TT Games to explore ways in which physical and digital LEGO play can merge in meaningful ways for children.”
LEGO Dimensions is attempting to become the next toys-to-life platform, with a number of expansions and figures eventually coming to stores after launch. Warner Brothers’ most ambitious LEGO title to date will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
