The Strong Museum felt it was time to recognize the impact video games hold on the world, so they’ve gone and created the World Video Game Hall of Fame.
The first inductees into the HOF are the following: Pong, Pac-Man, Tetris, Super Mario Bros., DOOM, and World of Warcraft. These were selected from a field of 15 finalist that included Angry Birds, FIFA, The Legend of Zelda, Minecraft, The Oregon Trail, Pokémon, The Sims, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Space Invaders. Eventually you’ll probably see every game from that list be inducted as they’re all iconic games that have definitely effected the industry and world.
Criteria for making the HOF?
- It must be of Icon Status or be widely recognized and remembered.
- Have Longevity or have been popular for a long time.
- Have Geographical Reach or hold significance throughout the world.
- Have Cultural Impact or influence other games, entertainment, and popular culture.
Well we know have an official Hall of Fame and it’s first inductees and if you were wondering who The Strong Museum is you can check them out here. As you’ll see they know what they’re talking about when it comes to games as they’re the International Center for the History of Electronic Games and have more than 55,000 game artifacts.
