A modder going by the handle “taltigolt” has just uploaded a video of a new mod that tacks on the entirety of Vice City to the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V.
It’s a massively impressive feat to see Franklin driving around the streets of Vice City, passing by Tommy Vercetti’s mansion or his high-rise condo or past that one sick ramp by the motorcycle club. If you’re a fan of 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, you’ll get some sweet nostalgia kicks out of the video. Interestingly, the recreation of the city uses original assets, so it’s a real mix of old-school pixellation and new-school fidelity as an immaculately detailed Franklin pulls up to a crunchy looking Bunch of Tools hardware store on angular roads.
The last time players have gone to Vice City, developer Rockstar’s satirical take on Miami, was in 2006’s Vice City Stories, and it’s the only area of Rockstar’s main trio—Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas—that hasn’t made the move into high definition yet. If you want to get a taste of what that might be like, though, you can download the mod from GTAForums.
