Latest New 3DS Commercial Makes No Mention of Xenoblade Chronicles 3D

Nintendo has released a brand new commercial for its New 3DS XL handheld, focusing on a number of well-received games released in the last year. Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, and The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D each get some time in the spotlight, but while those are all terrific and critically acclaimed titles there is one significant game missing from the lineup: Xenoblade Chronicles 3D.

As the only New 3DS exclusive released since the handheld’s launch in February, and a more recent release than every game in the video, its strange not to see the fantastic RPG featured in the this latest commercial, and betrays Nintendo’s efforts to popularize the franchise in recent months. With Xenoblade Chronicles X due in North America by the end of the year, will Nintendo’s lackluster marketing come back to bite it when sales numbers come in? Only time will tell.

Nintendo’s 3DS family of systems has enjoyed a lot of success since its launch in 2011, but the latest iteration, the New 3DS XL, has struggled to offer consumers compelling reasons to jump in or upgrade. With the Japanese company choosing not to highlight the handheld’s single exclusive game, what does that say about its plans
