E3 2015: Nintendo Predicts eShop Server Crashes, Is Immediately Proven Right

At the end of today’s Smash Bros. presentation, Super Smash Bros.┬ádirector Masahiro Sakurai warned viewers that Nintendo’s servers would likely buckle under the pressure of everyone rushing to purchase the 3DS and Wii U game’s new content all at once. That prediction quickly came true, as shortly after the content became available many players began reporting they were unable to connect to the eShop server to complete their purchase. It’s not the first time Nintendo’s servers have crumbled because of an influx of traffic, but if the Japanese company has resigned itself to that frustrating reality instead of taking steps to beef up its network, that is a much larger issue.
