Like at last year’s PlayStation Experience, Uncharted 4’s new E3 gameplay reveal showed very much to be impressed by… namely a gigantic, spanning level that looks and moves wonderfully, characters that animate incredibly naturally, and writing that never gives up. Oh, and the demo started on an overly-long black screen, then after the opening cutscene, it looked like the demonstrator’s controller wasn’t synced so they restarted the whole thing after we got to stare at a very lifelike and crowded city area.
At a technical level, there is little doubt that Uncharted 4 is an outstanding display of what the PlayStation 4 can do. Of course, this much horsepower may be a bit much to handle. Maybe the game is actually an elaborate, scripted event and the real game is to figure out if you are actually playing it or not. Then again, it could just as easily been a joke, intentional even. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time a developer acknowledged their screw-ups, played it off and won us over.
