Tesuya Nomura, the Director of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, didn’t realize he was on the project until he saw his name in the credits.
In an interview with Japanese magazine Famitsu, translated by Kotaku, Nomura talked about being approached about the remake by Square Enix Exec Shinji Hashimoto.
“Mr. Hashimoto was involved with the advertising and marketing of the original, so like [Mr. Kitase and myself],VII has a strong place in his heart.” Nomura explained.
“As preproduction went along and I offered my opinions on what I thought should be done, Mr. Kitase would asked me how the individual elements should be adjusted in fine detail.” Nomura recalled. “It was very perplexing.”
Nomura recalls checking the internal company presentation and seeing “Director Tetsuya Nomura” at the end.
“So I called up Mr. Kitase and said, ‘It says that I’m the director for some reason.’ To which he replied, ‘Of course it does.’”
Nomura is currently working on Kingdom Hearts 3 and since that title still doesn’t have a release date, it’s safe to say we won’t be seeing the Final Fantasy 7 Remake for a while.
