Keiji Inafune and his team at Comcept went to Might No. 9’s Kickstarter page to tease a new title they plan to officially announce and detail later on at Anime Expo called “Red Ash: The Indelible Legend”.
Developer Comcept will be working in collaboration with Japanese animation studio Studio 4°C to develop the new title. Fans have speculated that Red Ash may in fact be a spiritual successor to the cult-classic 3D action-platformer series Mega Man Legends since the original Japanese name for Mega Man Legends was “Rockman DASH”. Move the letters of Red Ash a little and you get “Re Dash”, which would serve as a clear sign of going back to the fan-favorite series. Another reason it makes sense for Red Ash to be in all intents and purposes a Mega Man Legends game, is what happened to Mega Man Legends 3.
Mega Man Legends 3 was announced for Nintendo 3DS almost ten years after the release of Mega Man Legends 2 on the original PlayStation. However, series lead Keiji Inafune left Capcom later the same year of its announcement. Though its development was still meant to continue with a demo release planned, Mega Man Legends 3 was cancelled the very next year, leaving devoted fans in the cold.
For now, little is actually known about Red Ash, but Comcept did release a conceptual teaser video for the title that you can watch below. Further details will be revealed at Anime Expo tomorrow, on Independence Day.
