Mighty No. 9 Live-Action Film Adaption Announced

Comcept, the developer of the successfully crowd-funded action-platformer Mighty No. 9, will be partnering with Legendary Digital Media and Contradiction Films to adapt the upcoming game into a feature-length, live-action movie. Legendary Digital Media, an offshoot of Legendary Pictures (“Jurassic World”, “Interstellar”), and Contradiction Films had previously released another film adaption of Mighty No. 9 designer Keiji Inafune’s work: “Dead Rising: Watchtower”. Dead Rising: Watchtower saw success on online streaming service Crackle and will be getting a sequel as a result.

For those unfamiliar, Mighty No. 9 is about an android named Beck, or unit No. 9, who is part of a ten robot team called “Mighty Numbers”. The story follows Beck as he faces off against other robots and his fellow Mighty Numbers after a computer virus attacks and turns them against each other. Beck must fight his former comrades and other threats with the aid of his best friend Call as they get to the bottom of who is responsible for the virus.

“The announcement that Legendary Digital is collaborating with Contradiction and comcept on creating a live action project based on Mighty No. 9 is really amazing, not only for myself and the rest of the team at comcept who worked on the game, but also for all the fans who have supported the project,” said Mighty No. 9 mastermind Keiji Inafune, concerning the new film adaption. “This collaboration will give our creation the ability to reach people all over the world. Thanks to all of your support, we have fulfilled another one of our dreams.”

The Mighty No. 9 live-action film adaption will be distributed on digital platforms like Netflix, Crackle, and Playstation Vue. However, there has been no confirmation on which digital platforms it will be available on yet. Likewise, the cast or even the visual style of the film are still unknown.

Mighty No. 9 itself will be available on PC, Linux, OS X, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, in the Americas this year on September 15, with a worldwide release on September 18. For more on Mighty No. 9, check out our preview here.
