Developer Scott Cawthon has confirmed via email to a reddit user that Five Nights at Freddy’s 4, the latest in Cawthon’s horror game franchise, will now release on August 8 instead of the originally planned October 31, but will release a free expansion on that date instead.
According to the email Cawthon sent redditor “dawkosgames,” the game’s release date was bumped up nearly three months so that it could coincide with the anniversary of the first game’s release in 2014; since then, Cawthon has released several new entries in the franchise to capitalize on its popularity and the support of series fans.
The series’ premise has you monitoring a pizza restaurant at night and trying to survive for five nights as the animatronic dolls attempt to kill you. Five Nights at Freddy’s 4: The Final Chapter promises to wrap up the ongoing story.
The game will now release on August 8 with a free expansion to follow on October 31.
