Back in 2010, one of the most exciting crossovers in fighting game history was announced: Tekken X Street Fighter. Developed in a collaboration between Bandai Namco and Capcom, the anticipated match up between two of the biggest fighting franchises in history has since gone more or less silent. In the years to follow, Bandai Namco producer Katsuhiro Harada would kindly remind people every once in a while that the game was still happening.
In an interview on the latest issue of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Harada once again assured fans about Tekken X Street Fighter’s development, saying, “I’ve been saying this since before, but the fact of the matter is that we’re at a pretty far stage into its development.”
Harada went on to say that the game is actually farther along in development than the relative silence would imply, stating, “It might seem like we haven’t started on it at all, but the character lineup has been decided upon since a very long time ago. And we’ve already finished the polygon models, moves, and systems.”
Whereas seeing nothing on it may be better than hearing that it’s cancelled, Tekken X Street Fighter seems to still be coming along. But with Street Fighter V and Tekken 7 in the oven, it makes sense that Tekken X Street Fighter would take a backseat. Only time will tell if the anticipated crossover will truly see the light of day, but for now the assurance is better than nothing.
