It’s not often that a publisher fires the developer of one of its game, but that’s exactly what has happened today. Deep Silver has today announced that they are parting ways with Dead Island 2 developer Yager, in a statement issued today:
“With Dead Island 2, Deep Silver has always been dedicated to delivering the sequel that Dead Island fans deserve. After careful consideration, today we announce the decision to part ways with development partner YAGER. We will continue working towards bringing our vision of Dead Island 2 to life, and we will share further information at a later stage.”
YAGER Development is best known for their critically acclaimed Spec Ops: The Line and has seemingly been working on Dead Island 2 for the past several years. It’s unclear who will take on the development reigns for the games, but perhaps Deep Silver wants to return original series developer Techland to the fold.
We were very skeptical about the progress of the game all the way back in September 2014, so it seems that conditions did not improve.
