Project Cars Cancelled on Wii U, Could Still Come to NX

Slightly Mad Studios head Ian Bell has confirmed that Project Cars has been cancelled on Wii U. The developer tried its best to get the game working on Nintendo’s latest console, but Wii U just couldn’t handle it. Though the game will never see the light on Wii U, Bell does hope that one day Project Cars can launch on the NX, Nintendo’s next console.

“The official line is that we’re awaiting an announcement from Nintendo on new hardware. As of now pCARS is simply too much for the Wii U,” Bell told Nintendo Life.

Project Cars launched in May on PS4, Xbox One, and PC and quickly became a critical and commercial success. PS3 and Xbox 360 versions were initially planned, but dropped because the consoles couldn’t handle the game. Considering that the Wii U’s power is comparable to PS3 and Xbox 360, it isn’t all that surprising that Project Cars isn’t coming to the platform. NX, Nintendo’s next big platform, will be revealed sometime in 2016.
