Nintendo has been making waves with its post-release content strategy for Splatoon, but the upcoming August update looks to be the most substantial thus far. The Japanese company has mentioned new gear, weapons, matchmaking options and an increased level cap are on the way, but it appears one of the game’s first maps will also be receiving an update of its own. A post on the official Splatoon Tumblr page today announced that Urchin Underpass “will be undergoing important construction work” from August 2-5. With the highly anticipated August content pack arriving on August 6, it stands to reason that this announcement is somehow involved.
A blueprint document accompanying the post hints at a number of changes to Urchin Underpass, with marks indicating the removal of the trees at each end and new walkways or passages through some of the previously inaccessible areas of the map. If Nintendo is in fact making changes to one of Splatoon’s first maps, might we see similar updates to the game’s other maps down the line? We’ll have to wait and see.
