Final Fantasy XII may be the next Final Fantasy game to receive a remake or remaster. This is according to Arnie Roth, the Final Fantasy Distant Worlds conductor, who made the revelation over the weekend at a concert in Pittsburgh.
Numerous fans heard him and took to Twitter in excitement (Neogaf compiled all the Tweets). Arnie said Final Fantasy XII would be a remake, though its likely he meant remaster. Its highly unlikely that Square Enix would develop a full remake of XII before they finish work on the Final Fantasy VII remake.
As it stands, Final Fantasy XII is the only Final Fantasy game unplayable on modern consoles and handhelds. All entries in the franchise can be played via PS3 and PS Vita under the title PS One Classics with Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster and the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy available on PS3. Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster has also been released on PS4. Releasing Final Fantasy XII on PS4 seems pretty logical.
Final Fantasy XII takes place in the world of Ivalice. The story focuses on Imperial Archadia’s invasion of the kingdom of Dalmasca, home to many of the characters in XII, and their effort to repel the invasion. If this is true, an announcement could come at either Gamescom or Tokyo Game Show, as Square Enix will have a pretty big presence at both conventions.
