2K Games has released the reveal trailer for Mafia III, as promised. The game is being developed by Hanger 13 and is set for a 2016 release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Mafia III takes place in New Orleans in 1968 and follows the story of Lincoln Clay. A Vietnam veteran, Clay returns to his home city after years of war. Orphaned as a child, Clay finds a surrogate family through the city’s black mob. However, this is all taken away when his “family” is slaughtered by the Italian mob. Fixated on revenge, Clay ignites an all-out war with the Italian mob, uniting other criminals to build a new empire and forever transform the city of New Orleans.
“Mafia III continues the strong franchise tradition of a captivating story set in the treacherous and calculated world of organized crime,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “Mafia III captures Hangar 13’s mantra of ‘every player story is unique’ through a cinematic narrative that responds to player choice.”
Much like Mafia II, significant time and effort has been put into recreating the setting. New Orleans is bustling with activity and filled with era-inspired cars, fashion, and music. Players will navigate the city and take revenge against the Italian mob how they see fit. Will you take down the Italians through cunning, staling, and deception, or with overwhelming firepower? The choice is completely yours.
“The Mafia franchise is known for its immersive sense of time and place, and for presenting compelling stories about life within organized crime,” said Haden Blackman, studio head and creative director at Hanger 13. “In Mafia III, we are introducing players to an unexpected new anti-hero and an iconic city to explore, all within a hard-boiled drama set during one of the most turbulent years in American history.”
Mafia III is out sometime in 2016. Expect to see a lot more of the game as we speed towards the new year.
