Take-Two Interactive announced today at an earnings call that Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto V has now shipped 54 million copies, which cements its position as the fourth best-selling game of all-time.
Tip of the hat to Rockstar on this one. Grand Theft Auto V is a fantastic game that we awarded not one, not two, but three perfect scores in our reviews of the last-gen, current-gen and PC versions, calling it “one of the greatest games of all time.” There has been a handful of versions across the different platforms to incentivize players to buy more than one version of the game, but it’s no less impressive a number. Grand Theft Auto V now rests just under Minecraft and above the original Super Mario Bros. for the NES in the pantheon of best-selling games ever.
Take-Two also reported a 142 percent revenue increase from $151.6 million last year to $366.4 million this year, with a profit of $34.2 million compared to an $11.2 million net loss last year. Take-Two attributed the earnings to several games, but the biggest among them were Grand Theft Auto V and its online component, Grand Theft Auto Online.
