A free-to-play, five-on-five mecha battle game, Gundam Battle Operation NEXT will be hitting both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 this year, at least in Japan.
Featuring the giant, majestic machines from the popular Gundam mecha anime series, Gundam Battle Operation NEXT will use a similar free-to-play model as its predecessor. Developer Bandai Namco has seen fit to restrict game time to a resource called Sortie Energy. Playing missions spends Sortie Energy, and though it regains over time, players can also purchase Sortie Energy with cold, hard cash. Hopefully, this does not mean that players who don’t quite grasp and master the game as quickly as others will have to wait before they can practice and improve.
See below for a Japanese trailer of the game. Players in Japan who are interested can queue up for the game’s beta via the PlayStation Network. Unfortunately, there is no news on a Western release.
