CHIKARA Action Arcade Wrestling Hits Steam Greenlight

For the first time since TNA Wrestling’s video game in 2008 and 2010, wrestling fans will have an officially-licensed non-WWE wrestling game to play. The creators of Action Arcade Wrestling 1 and 2 on the Xbox 360 are back, and teaming up with the crew behind CHIKARA Pro Wrestling to creation CHIKARA Action Arcade Wrestling. Action Arcade Wrestling 3 has been in the works for a while now, but early in the day on September 5, the 3 was scratched out.

Later on in the evening, the reason became clear – Action Arcade Wrestling is now CHIKARA Action Arcade Wrestling. The series started as a low-cost option for wrestling game fans to have a download-only game to enjoy without spending tons of money on a WWE game. AAW 2 greatly improved the original’s foundation, and it featured a really thorough texture-editing feature that came as close as one can image to a full-fledged mod system on an XBLA game. The game has gone from being a 360 download to reaching a whole new audience on Steam, with wacky Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter II-style attacks thrown in for good measure from time to time that actually fits in nicely with CHIKARA’s more surreal approach to pro wrestling.
