Independent game developer Lab Zero Games caught many eyes with their beautiful and lively 2D competitive fighting game Skullgirls. Their next project isn’t a fighter however, but an RPG-platformer hybrid inspired by Valkyrie Profile and Super Metroid called “Indivisible”.
Using “metroid-vania” gameplay elements and their own take on the turn-based combat of the JRPG genre, Lab Zero seems intent on making Indivisible plenty familiar enough but with unique and fresh flair where it would stand out. The game’s plot follows a globe-trotting girl with mysterious powers named Ajna (“AHZH-na”) and her crew of odd friends on a journey through a world inspired by southeast Asian mythology. Fans of classic eastern tales like “Journey to the West” may find something pleasantly familiar about Indivisible characters and setting.
Keeping people posted, Lab Zero uploaded a work-in-progress video of the game, featuring a look at the combat. Take a look at the “VR Mission” prototype video below. Needless to say, Lab Zero’s penchant for quality, hand-drawn animations is entirely intact.
If you want to see more, here’s the platforming prototype video from last month as well.
