The critically acclaimed Metal Gear Solid has been voted the best PlayStation 1 title of all time.
Celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the PS1’s release in North America and Europe, Sony created a poll on the PlayStation Blog that asked fans to vote for the “best original PlayStation game of all time.”
PS1, which boasts a catalogue of over 2000 titles from first- and third-party developers, had Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid rank at No. 1, winning the prestigious platinum trophy in Sony’s poll (see the image below).
Metal Gear Solid fought off fierce competition to earn first place, with Final Fantasy VII, Crash Bandicoot and Crash Bandicoot: Warped finishing in second, third and fourth respectively.
In other news, Sumo Digital’s LittleBigPlanet 3 will be receiving some Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain-themed costumes for players to dress Sackboy and Co. in.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which was released on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC earlier this month, is Kojima’s final instalment in the Metal Gear Solid franchise, with players once again assuming the role of Big Boss.
Hardcore Gamer found The Phantom Pain to be “a fully realized [Metal Gear Solid] Peace Walker, with a large-scale production behind it not possible in a handheld title.” Read more about all of the positives in our review.
