Shovel Knight Composer Jake Kaufman Joins Scarlet Moon Artists

Jake Kaufman, the composer behind the critically acclaimed Shovel Knight, has been recruited by Scarlet Moon Productions, the company announced on Thursday.

Kaufman, who is also known by the pseudonym ‘virt,’ reached an agreement with Scarlet Moon Productions that will allow him the opportunity to “focus on writing music for an even wider variety of projects both big and small.”

Scarlet Moon Productions head Jayson Napolitano welcomed the partnership between the company and the DuckTales: Remastered composer.

“I’ve known Jake for over fifteen years at this point, so I like to believe I have a good sense of how this man works,” Napolitano said. “I’m looking forward to helping him manage the day-to-day activities that keep him out of the studio, and fans are going to be the true beneficiaries as we’re ensuring Jake can focus on writing even more of the amazing music he’s been writing for years.”

Since launching in 2014, having originally formed in 2013, Scarlet Moon Artists has built a roster containing talented composers from multiple industries, which includes the likes of Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy XII), Norihiko Hibino (Metal Gear Solid series) and Vince DiCola (Rocky IV).

Hardcore Gamer’s review for Shovel Knight identified the positive addition of “collectibles [that] come in the form of sheet music strewn throughout the game, each representing one of the game’s stellar chiptune tracks, courtesy of the musical genius Jake Kaufman.”
