After discussing their Q3 financial earnings, Nintendo hinted at what their next mobile game might be and who might have the leading role.
They said that the game will feature one of the most well known characters in their line up, so Mario, Link and Pikachu are all in the running. What type of game it will be is also still a mystery, although the company did say that it would be a more traditional game, unlike their first mobile game, Miitomo.
“The second game won’t be another communication app, and we plan to adopt one of our characters that fans are very familiar with,” said Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima. For those who were disappointed with Nintendo’s first crack at the mobile genre, this news will come as a glint of hope. Investors were not pleased with Miitomo, so a more traditional game was likely a good move.
Mobile games could be big for Nintendo if they do it right. Both mobile gaming and nostalgia have been growing in their prominence in the industry, and as Nintendo’s console market struggles, this new venture could be their saving grace.
