GameTrailers Closes its Doors After Thirteen Years

GameTrailers has just announced that it is closing down today after thirteen years in operation. GameTrailers opened its doors in 2002 in the infancy of the idea of videos on the internet. In a pre-YouTube era, GameTrailers was very much gamers’ main source to view the latest and greatest video game trailers. GameTrailers was also involved with a short-lived television series dubbed “GameTrailers TV” that replaced Geoff Keighley’s Game Head on Spike TV.

In 2014, Gametrailers laid off two-thirds of its full time staff after it was purchased by Defy Media (owners of Smosh as well as fellow video game site, The Escapist) signaling that the once undisputed powerhouse of game videos could be facing serious adversity.

No reason was given for the closure.
