Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 is Going Free-to-Play Very Soon

Lately, Koei Tecmo has been embracing the free-to-play model with their Dead or Alive franchise, and apparently it’s working out for them. The Japanese company has announced today that they will be bringing their former “beach volleyball” sequel to a similar format.

Beginning May 16, Japanese players (or those with a Japanese PlayStation Network account) will be able to download a free version of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. This package will include one character (Kasumi) with the vast majority of the modes and activities. What players will have the option to buy, similar to Dead or Alive, are the characters themselves, along with the Casino section of the game.

There are only eight other characters, which will run buyers back ¥1,200 (roughly $11) each on PS4 (PSV coming ¥100 cheaper), with the Casino portion coming in at ¥20,000 ($18.67). At least this gives players the option to pick and choose their favorite DOA girls, although character building won’t be available unless you have specific characters unlocked.
