Just under a million Xbox Live Gamertags that were previously unavailable will be re-released on May 18, Xbox Wire announced today.
The Gamertags were unavailable because they had been used by players who had changed their names. Xbox Live allows you to change your Gamertag for a fee, but your old Gamertag is still considered used and new players making a Live account were told that those names were taken.
Although Xbox did not release the list of newly available Gamertags, the article disclosed some of the kinds of names that have been put back into the fray. The new options include:
- Proper Names
- Pop culture references (Entertainment, sports, gaming)
- Types of Food
- Geography and Travel
- Science and Technology
- Math and Numbers
- Some of the greatest inventions of all time
So if you were looking to pick up an Xbox Live account, you may want to wait a couple more days. You’ll have many more options.
