Footballing legend Diego Maradona will be the star of the upcoming BFB Champions: Global Kick-Off, Japanese developer Cybird announced on Wednesday.
The partnership between the developer and the Argentine footballer will see Maradona, who is often revered as one of the greatest players of all time alongside Brazil’s Pelé, on promotional material and also have a 3D character in BFB Champions.
Maradona’s in-game avatar features in the latest teaser trailer for BFB Champions (posted below), recreating the iconic moment that the World Cup-winning Argentine scored his ‘Goal of the Century’ against England in the 1986 World Cup.
Signing up for a special pre-registration bonus campaign will allow players to unlock Maradona and place him in their respective squads when BFB Champions is released on the market, Cybird has confirmed.
“Diego Maradona needs no introduction: truly one of the greats of world football, revered or reviled depending on your footballing persuasion,” Cybird said in its press release.
“Now, 30 years after inflicting a world of hurt on English football, would-be managers can put him in their own team or get revenge by beating rivals who have him in theirs. Are you going to play with him? Or against him?”
BFB Champions, the sequel to the Japanese mobile title BFB 2016, allows players to take on the role of a football club manager and compete against players from all around the world in different leagues and competitions.
According to Cybird, BFB Champions will feature “a new [and] improved game system and a range of new features.”
BFB Champions: Global Kick-Off will launch in the UK and Europe at some point in 2016 for iOS and Android devices.
