If The Princess Bride taught the world anything, it’s that dying isn’t as major as it could be. Such is the case for the hero in Atlus’ upcoming Shin Megami Thensei IV: Apocalypse. After being murdered by the sparkly peacock/horse (peakorse?) hybrid, Adramelech, the hunter-in-training strikes a deal with lesser god Dagda for a new lease on life. Players will be in command of this newly appointed servant as they navigate through the bizarre game of the gods in a demon-overrun Tokyo.
Set to release this summer, Apocalypse serves as a companion title to the original Shin Megami Tensei IV. Experience with the previous title is not required. Still, returning players will cross paths with familiar characters and improved demonic systems to make fusion and battle much more rich and smooth.
The series as a whole is some of the best Japanese RPG gaming to be found anywhere, so it’s no wonder fans are eagerly counting down the release of this one. It’s still slated for this summer, but Atlus has not confirmed a solid date. For now, the below story trailer will have to tide us over. That, or clearing some hanging quest threads in the previous release.
