From Diablo to Warcraft, there’s no denying that Blizzard Entertainment makes colossal hits. Well it looks like they now have another under their belt as their highly regarded recent release of Overwatch is selling exponentially well.
Blizzard Entertainment has announced today that their first new IP in eighteen years has surpassed seven million players in just over a week’s time.
“Over the months and weeks leading up to release we saw a lot of love and support for Overwatch—from Blizzard gamers, FPS fans, and people who’d never picked up a game like this before—and we’re very grateful for everyone’s incredible passion and enthusiasm,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We poured a lot of effort into creating a game—and a new universe—that anyone could enjoy. We’re ecstatic to have had such a successful launch, and we’re looking forward to all of the fun, competition, and new content still to come.”
There was an indication that Overwatch was going to do well when it was announced the open beta alone generated over 9.7 million users worldwide, but seven million is still an incredible achievement. Overwatch is available right now for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
