Diablo III Director Leaves Blizzard, Games Industry

Jay Wilson, game director for Diablo III, has announced he is leaving Blizzard Entertainment and the gaming industry.

Diablo III launched in 2012 in a lot of trouble. The servers crashed at launch, and many found there to be little to do in-game. That all turned around though, mostly thanks to Jay Wilson. As game director, Wilson retooled Diablo III into the successful game it is today. Diablo III has seen one expansion, Reaper of Souls, and a successful port to consoles. After spending nearly ten years in the industry, Jay Wilson’s watch has ended.

Wilson confirmed the news on Twitter. Not only will he be leaving Blizzard, but also the game industry. This, he says, will allow him to pursue his passion for writing.

Diablo III is available now on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac OS X, PS3, and Xbox 360. We have no idea what Blizzard’s future plans are for the Diablo franchise, but they did release a brand new game last week, Overwatch. We at Hardcore Gamer wish Mr. Wilson good fortunes in all his future endeavors.
