In October last year, unknown developer No Matter Studios released a reveal trailer which debuted their maiden game, Prey for the Gods. Almost immediately, mass interest in the game manifested over social media and prominent gaming publications including our own. Instant comparisons to iconic games such as Shadow of the Colossus were made due to the evocative imagery of a small protagonist combating a gigantic enemy. Enough noise was made that even SotC Level Designer Takeshi Asano reached out to No Matter to let them know what he thought. Hardcore Gamer also jumped on the hype train as we interviewed Brian Parnell, Founder of No Matter as soon as we saw the trailer.
Now, almost nine months after the reveal, No Matter are heading down the increasingly popular crowdfunding route. Requiring funds to “continue development and retain creative control”, the studio are aiming for a $300,000 budget to achieve their plans for launch. As typical for Kickstarter campaigns, additional funds raised will be used to increase scope and content. Described by the developers as a combination of gameplay from ” Shadow of the Colossus, Deus Ex, DayZ, and Bloodborne”, the project is definitely one to keep an eye on. We certainly will be.
Prey for the Gods’ Kickstarter campaign will end on Saturday, August 6. At the time of writing, the campaign has already raised $73,000. If you want to contribute, head over to the Kickstarter page.
