Microsoft has officially revealed their plans for Gamescom 2016, and a press conference is not included.
Microsoft traditionally holds a press conference at Gamescom to show off their upcoming games, and particularly highlight European developers. That’s all changing for Gamescom 2016, where there will be no Xbox press conference. Instead, Microsoft will only have a booth and an Xbox Fanfest.
Despite the lack of a press conference, Microsoft intends to have a big presence at the event. The Xbox booth has been relocated to Hall 8 of the Koelnmesse, giving them adequate space for all their games. Fans will get to go hands-on with some of the most anticipoated Xbox One and Windows 10 games of 2016 and 2017. Confirmed titles include Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, Halo Wars 2, ReCore, Sea of Thieves, and a host of ID@Xbox titles.
Microsoft is also planning an Xbox Fanfest event that they describe as more intimate than a typical press conference. More details about the event will be announced in the near future.
The absence of an Xbox press conference could leave Gamescom 2016 press conference free. Nintendo and Sony have not announced any Gamescom 2016 plans yet, but past history suggests both companies might not have a press conference. It has been years since Nintendo has held a press conference at any major event, and Sony opted to skip Gamescom last year in favor of Paris Games Week.
Gamescom 2016 will take place August 18-August 21 in Cologne, Germany.
