During his panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 23, Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima showcased an animated “logo movie” for his independent gaming studio, Kojima Productions.
The 36-second-long video, posted below, has Kojima Productions’ mascot, Ludens, planting a flag that has the studio’s logo on it. At the same time as Ludens places the flag into the ground, a whale erupts from the background before it eventually begins to fade away.
Kojima shared the first full-sized image of Ludens in May, as well as adding a message that said: “We’ll deliver THE NEW PLAY in THE NEW FUTURE with the cutting-edge equipment, technology, & the frontier spirit.”
Following the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in September 2015, Kojima ended his longstanding career at publisher Konami, opened his own independent studio and formed a partnership with Sony.
Through his collaboration with Sony, Kojima officially announced his next project, Death Stranding, at the publisher’s 2016 E3 media briefing.
Death Stranding, starring The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus, is a console exclusive for PlayStation 4, though it’s expected to be released on PC as well.
Hardcore Gamer called The Phantom Pain, Kojima’s last contribution to his illustrious Metal Gear Solid franchise, the “epitome of stealth action.”
Reviewer Adam Beck wrote the following in his review: “To those who complain that Metal Gear Solid games fail to deliver in the gameplay department while focusing primarily on the obscurity of its story, this is the response to that.
“That’s not to say Kojima Productions went light on the plot, as it’s even more ridiculous than ever, but the balance is now tilting in favor of the gameplay for the first time. This is a fully realized Peace Walker, with a large-scale production behind it not possible in a handheld title.”
