Merge Games have today confirmed a release date for developer Laser Dog Games’ upcoming speed-run platformer, HoPiKo. The zero-gravity, fast-paced title will launch for consoles — on both PS4 & Xbox One — next Wednesday, October 19. Set within literal gaming hardware itself, HoPiKo sees players take on the role of the last free member of the eponymous species — whose job it is to watch over the everyday running of video games — after a sudden infection by the Nanobyte virus.
It’s up to players to whizz through the game’s allotment of obstacle course-styled levels to rid gaming hardware of this virus, all of which is backed by a similarly upbeat chiptune soundtrack composed entirely on an original Game Boy. HoPiKo has previously been available on mobile devices and only now makes its transition onto conventional gaming platforms. A PC/Mac version will also be available though no release date has been provided for either of these versions. Check out a trailer for the game below.
