Report: Shadow of the Tomb Raider is Real, Developed by Eidos Montreal

After yesterday’s shocking leak of the supposed Shadow of the Tomb Raider, apparent sources have come forward with more information.

Halloween is all about trick-or-treating, and boy did gamers get a big trick-or-treat yesterday. A reddit user posted a screenshot from a subway in Montreal showing someone working on a presentation for an unannounced game, Shadow of the Tomb Raider. This would be the supposed third game in the critically acclaimed Tomb Raider reboot franchise. Obviously, not many knew want to think of this. Is it a trick, or a treat? Well, it’s looking like a treat.

Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, who has a tremendous track record of leaking announcements, has revealed that sources have told him that Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the current title of the third game. However, he notes that is is subject to change.

However, the biggest bombshell is that Crystal Dynamics, the developer of the 2013 reboot and Rise of the Tomb Raider, will not be developing this third game. Instead, Montreal based Eidos Montreal will be leading the development. The studio is best known for its recent work on Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Thief. Eidos Montreal also developed the not-so-amazing multiplayer for the Tomb Raider reboot.

Obviously, this all needs to be taken with a huge grain of salt until Square Enix, Eidos Montreal, or Crystal Dynamics make an announcement. The second game, Rise of the Tomb Raider, is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
