There was further proof recently that even the heads of video game’s biggest companies — and thus competitors to one another — can offer respect and kind words. A far cry from certain corners of the gaming community at the very least. Speaking to Digital Spy, PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida was asked on his thoughts on Nintendo’s upcoming console, the Switch to which Yoshida commented that he thought it was “a very unique system”. “It’s very interesting that they’ve designed the system to work well with more conventional games in terms of inputs and buttons.” Yoshida continued. “So I think it’s good for core gamers and their marketing message focused on that.”
Though when asked if he felt the Switch would stand as additional competition in terms of hardware sales for both PS4 & PS4 Pro, he stated “I think they’re going to cover a new market for themselves.” which may indicate Yoshida believes the Switch doesn’t prove that big a threat towards Sony’s continuing dominance in the console space. It was recently announced that sales of PS4’s had hit another milestone with over 50 million PS4 systems combined now sold since its launch in November 2013.
