Microtransactions Invade Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered’s latest update added more than just the final six multiplayer maps.

Supply Drops and Microtransactions have made their way to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. Supply Drops, which weren’t created until 2014s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, have been a part of every Call of Duty since, and are now being added to an old game. Modern Warfare Remastered Supply Drops come packed with animated calling cards, emblems, camos, character personalization items, weapon customization pieces, and melee weapons.

Raven Software released a statement stating that Supply Drops and microtransactions were added so that players could have more personalization options. They say their highest priority is to retain the balance of the original game. So far, there have been no new guns or equipment added through Supply Drops. Also, players can unlock the items by collecting ‘Parts,” which is the same thing as Salvage in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is a game we want players to be engaged in for a long time. We’re excited to support this great game with new content, beginning today with a ton of new customization items that allow for a level of personalization that wasn’t possible in the original release in 2007. Personalization is a big part of Call of Duty and something we’ve done in the series for a while now that fans really enjoy. But of course, we’ve done it very carefully as our highest priority is to retain the balance, aesthetics and player silhouettes in the game.

The patch did bring some good content that everyone can enjoy. The final six maps (Bloc, Countdown, Pipeline, Showdown, Strike, and Wet Work) have finally been added, and Winter Crash makes its debut on consoles. To celebrate, Raven Software has crafted two special weapon camos, Gift Wrap and Ugly Sweater. Both of these can be unlocked by completing challenges on Winter Crash.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC as part of the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Legacy Edition.
