Sony has finally put a date on their premium PlayStation Platinum Wireless Headset.
The Platinum Wireless Headset was first announced back in September at the PS4 Pro reveal event. However, Sony was tight-lipped on when players could pick up the premium headset. Today, we finally have a release date.
The Platinum Wireless Headset hits store shelves January 12, 2017 for $159.99 in the US, and $199.99 in Canada. The headset comes with enhanced highly positional 7.1 virtual surround sound powered by PlayStation’s proprietary 3D audio technology. Hidden noise-cancelling microphones are built directly into the headset providing crisp, clear communication no matter how crazy a game gets. The headset also has a premium build that offers style, durability, and comfort for long gaming sessions. Those looking to use the headset with PS VR or mobile devices can with the provided 3.5mm audio cable.
3D audio is the main selling point of the Platinum Wireless Headset. This features mimics the behavior of sound in real life by delivering audio to your ears from different directions. Naughty Dog will be the first studio to incorporate 3D audio via a patch for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Upcoming games that will support 3D audio include MLB The Show 17, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, and Days Gone among others.
