Universal Pictures has filed a trademark for a new video game, Jurassic World Survivor.
Jurassic World hit theatres worldwide and ushered in a renewed interest in the Jurassic Park franchise. The film would go on to earn over $1.6 billion at the global box office making it the fourth highest-grossing film of all time. At the time, leaked info suggested that Cryptic Studios in Seattle was working on a Jurassic World video game before they were shut down. While it looked like a Jurassic World inspired game would never be released, new evidence is suggesting we might eventually see one.
Jurassic Park fan site Jurassic Outpost has discovered that Universal Pictures has filed a trademark application for a video game titled Jurassic World Survivor. Upon further digging, the site discovered that publisher Perfect World Entertainment had purchased the www.JurassicWorldSurvivor.com domain back in October. It’s possible that Universal and Perfect World are prepping a game for release alongside the fifth Jurassic Park film in 2018.
Obviously this all needs to be taken with a huge grain of salt until Universal or Perfect World Entertainment make an announcement. However, it does make sense for both companies to use such a lucrative IP for a game spin-off. ARK: Survival Evolved, which also features dinosaurs running rampant on a tropical island, has proven that a survival game that pits humans against dinosaurs can work. Perhaps Universal and Perfect World are looking at creating something similar.
Jurassic Park 5/World 2 hits theatres June 22, 2018. We’ll let you know if Universal Pictures and Perfect World Entertainment announce Jurassic World Survivor.
