Ridley Scott is teaming up with Fox Innovation Lab to create a VR experience for Scott’s upcoming horror film, Alien: Covenant.
Alien: Covenant is one of the most anticipated films of 2017. Serving as both a sequel to Prometheus and a prequel to Alien, Covenant is set to offer answers to many of the franchise’s biggest questions. Alien: Covenant won’t just scare viewers in theatres, but also at home on VR headsets.
The Alien: Covenant VR experience is set to be produced by Ridley Scott with David Karlak directing. No release date were mentioned, but Alien: Covenant is set for a May release, which means the experience might also launch around that time. You will have to pay for the experience, but a price point has not been set yet. Fox will release it on all major VR platforms, but did not list what those will be. Here’s the official description for the Alien: Covenant VR experience:
“Viewers will discover the true meaning of terror as they navigate through horrifying alien environments and a story where every decision could mean the difference between life and death.”
Alien: Covenant VR marks the second major title from Fox Innovation Lab. Last year they unveiled The Martian VR Experience, which they have since released on HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and PlayStation VR. It stands to reason Alien: Covenant VR will head to the same platforms, but we’ll need to wait for an announcement to be safe.
Alien: Covenant hits theatres this May. In other Alien news, SEGA Europe has teased us with the possibility of the terrifying Alien: Isolation getting a VR mode. That was last September though, and the publisher hasn’t announced anything yet.
